Capitol Music Group announced on Tuesday the launch of Capitol Innovation Center (CIC), a space to conduct programming events to help foster innovative ideas between content creators, the tech community, and students, inspiring the next generation of leaders in the music industry.

The CIC, opening on April 15, will be based at the company’s legendary tower and state-of-the-art recording studios in Hollywood, California. The CIC will provide events such as Speaker Workshops and Hackathons, which include either guest music experts or eligibility to compete for major prizes.

The Future She Built, CIC’s first workshop, will be held on April 18 and will feature COO of CMG Michelle Jubelirer, Founder/Director of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative Stacy Smith, President of SAG-AFTRA Gabrielle Carteris, and President & COO of the LA Sparks Christine Simmons as speakers. The workshop will be presented in partnership with Select Management Group.

While the first CIC Hackathon will be held on June 2-3, not only bringing together software developers, acclaimed producers, songwriters, and influencers in a challenge to incubate new waves of music-related products, services, and content, but also give participants access to the recording studios, as well as a catalog of UMG audio streaming tracks delivered by partners 7digital and Cloudinary. The winning developing team will be given the opportunity to be considered for an 8-month innovation license to draw from this catalog, while winning content teams will have their finished pieces heard by representatives of Capitol’s A&R team.

“With its diverse offerings of original programming and communal workspace, we believe that the Capitol Innovation Center has the potential to further transform our Tower into a destination where brilliant minds can come together to share ideas, knowledge, and creativity across social and generational barriers, as well as pioneer breakthroughs that will drive the music industry into the future,” said CMG Chairman & CEO Steve Barnett.
